FABRICA DE PUROS INTERNATIONAL

Fabricas de Puros International is a boutique cigar manufacturer founded in 2002 in Danli,Honduras.
We focus on the local community and employ 200 Hondurans to plant, crop, and hand roll cigars, contributing to local economic growth. Our cigars are then packaged in wooden boxes that we produce out of local raw materials. In addition to local attention, our artisanal process is the heart of our cigars and what makes them different. We handle the entire production from start to finish -- from planting the leaf to boxing the cigar -- in our factory and the plantation fields that surround it. We currently own 3 brands: Columbus, Edicion Roja, Gold Edition.

    Planting the Seed

The finest tobacco seeds are selected and prepped in indoor seed nurseries by our highly trained farmers who monitor the seedlings. When they are ready, usually after six to ten weeks, we personally transplant them into the fields. Our farmers still monitor them outdoors and carefully prune the plants to ensure the leaves grow to the appropriate size to be cultivated.

  • Harvesting
    Harvesting

Once the leaf is ready for harvest, it is handpicked by our farmers.

  • Curing the Leaf
    Curing the Leaf

Once the leaf is ready for harvest, it is handpicked by our farmers. The tobacco leaves are then cured in order to develop the characteristic aroma that is distinct to our brands. The curation process removes the moisture from the leaves and turns the fresh, green leaves into dried brown-yellowish color. To do so, the harvested plants are tied together and hung up on narrow strips of wood in a well-ventilated curing barn. The temperature is carefully monitored by our experts in order to prevent extreme and rapid drying and ensure the slow process instead. As the leaves oxidize and lose their green color, compounds form in the tobacco and it is during this curing process that the subtle and smooth tobacco flavors develop. This process is time-consuming and deliberate, but it is conducted by our skilled agronomists and equipped facilities and is extremely crucial to producing high-quality flavors.

  • Aging Process

After curing, the leaves are manually sorted again and then set aside to mature, sometimes for up to two years or longer, in temperature-controlled aging facilities. This subsequent aging process allows for the slow oxidation and degradation of carotenoids in the tobacco leaf. This produces various compounds in the tobacco leaves that give cured tobacco its fruity, aromatic flavor that contributes to the "smoothness" of the cigar.

    The Art of Hand-rolling

The hand-rolling process is a delicate art. When the tobacco is ready, the leaves are deveined and then separated according to type and strength. They’re then meticulously blended into groups to create the exact proportions to be used in each cigar/size/line. The grand finale is reached with master cigar makers bringing the whole process together in each handcrafted cigar.

  • Meticulous Quality
    Meticulous Quality

Cigars are checked for quality during each step of the manufacturing process to ensure a great product. The quality of the tobacco leaves is the heart of it all, and leaves are sorted and inspected after curing, after fermentation, and before they are made into cigars. The finished cigars are also checked for consistent diameter, weight, size, draw, and for any imperfections in the wrapper or in the shape to make sure every cigar lives up to our exceptional standards.
